Persuasive Writing

Students were introduced to a new form of writing this week, persuasive writing. We first learned what it means to persuade someone and the difference between facts and opinions. A question was raised where students picked which side they supported. The question was, “should animals be kept in the zoo?” I was astonished at how passionate students were about this topic. We first met with our collective side and then came up with all the reasons we support that side. Then students in the group elected 2 representatives who would speak on their behalf to try and persuade the other side. This lead to a very heated and passionate debate! Students on the side saying that no animals shouldn’t be kept in a zoo were able to convince, most students from the other side to change their opinions. It looks like there are a lot of future lawyers in this class!
